07 May, Wellington – On April 11 2012 the International Conference Supporting the Reunification of Korea took place in Pyongyang. The conference discussed issues of supporting the Korean people in their struggle to reunify the country independently. It also discussed the issue for all the solidarity organizations to conduct activities to ensure peace on the Korean Peninsula and create a favorable atmosphere for its reunification through dialogue and cooperation.

Present were co-chairmen of the international preparatory committee including Guy Dupre, secretary general of the International Liaison Committee for Reunification and Peace in Korea, Socorro Gomes, president of the World Peace Council, and others, delegations and delegates of Nigeria, South Africa, Norway, New Zealand, Nepal, Denmark, Germany, Russia, Mongolia, the U.S., Democratic Congo, Mexico, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Brazil, Venezuela, Belarus, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Sweden, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Australia, Austria, Iceland, India, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Indonesia, Japan, Spain, Ecuador, Vietnam, Thailand, Pakistan, France, Finland, Colombia, Cuba, Turkey, Poland and Peru and representatives of international organizations.

Kim Jin Bom, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Solidarity with World People, officials of the Korean Committee for Solidarity with World People and officials concerned also attended.

Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa, Greetings, Greetings, Greetings to you all.

I would like to convey my good wishes to the delegates present, many of whom have traveled the length of the globe to gather here, in Pyongyang, to celebrate the centenary of President Kim Il-Sung.

I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to General Secretary Hwang Sung Chol and Chairman Pak Kyong Il, of the DPRK-New Zealand Friendship Society, for making this visit possible. I would also like to acknowledge the Rev. Don Borrie, co-founder of the NZ-DPRK Society, in whose place I am attending. I am grateful for his knowledge and continued support, and greatly appreciate the opportunity to speak in his place. His work with DPR-Korea has been long-standing and important; a fruitful relationship which he has fostered since first visiting in the 1970’s. It has been a relationship based on mutual trust, respect, and friendship.

On 26th March 2001, ambassadorial level diplomatic relations were established between our countries. These societies have, and continue to make, a significant contribution to the positive promotion of the DPR-Korea’s historical, cultural, and scientific values worldwide, playing an instrumental role in the development of relations between our countries.

As the New Zealand Representative speaking here today, I seek to further the deepening of understanding and mutual trust between our two countries and peoples, as well as contribute to the continued development of friendship and goodwill between nations. We seek to increase awareness, understanding and contact between the people of New Zealand and the people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and to actively explore economic and social relationships which promote peace and unity. We support all efforts for the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea; to establish permanent peace, for the elimination of the ever-present threats of conflict on the Korean peninsula, and the pursuits of reconciliation, cooperation, coexistence and coprosperity. Since the end of the Korean War, families have been separated, and Korea remains divided. The two peoples of Korea have an understanding for each other, and a longing for reunification.

We extend our thanks and warm wishes to His Excellency Kim Jong-Un. May you lead on the path toward permanent peace, and a united Korea, with full participation of the peoples.

There is an old Maori proverb: He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!

What is the most important thing in the world? It is people! It is people! It is people!

The 100th anniversary is an important milestone in the history of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. On this special occasion I wish you good health, lots of energy, life optimism and prosperity and happiness.

The meeting discussed the measures concerning the solidarity movement for supporting Korea’s reunification. Kim Jin Bom in an address expressed belief that the progressives of the world would extend full support and solidarity to the just cause of the Korean people for the country’s reunification.

05 May, Wellington – Pataka Museum of Arts and Cultures cordially invites you to attend Money Talks, an exhibition displaying worldwide currency including DPR-Korea, from 25 February until 01 July 2012.

The design of banknotes has traditionally included imagery of politicians, statesmen and women, of heroes and of man-made and natural wonders. The exhibition features selected banknotes from around the world, and tells the stories of the people and places depicted on them using large back-lit graphics, text, photographs and objects.

The exhibition also looks at some of the most beautiful banknote designs in the world, and discusses the influences that contributed to their design.
