Ja Song Nam – Permanent Representative to the United Nations (2014-present)
Ja Song Nam presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on 28 February, 2014. From 2011 until his appointment, Ja Song Nam was Director-General of the Department for National Reunification Affairs, and Director of the Institute for Disarmament and Peace in his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Between 2006 and 2011, he served as Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
Mr Ja served an earlier term as Director-General of the Department for National Reunification Affairs and Director of the Institute for Disarmament and Peace from 2005 to 2006. He was a Senior Researcher in the Ministry from 2004 to 2005. He was a Counsellor at his country’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York from 2000 to 2004.
From 1998 to 2000, Mr Ja was Deputy Director-General of the Department for Reunification Affairs, as well as a Desk Officer and Division Chief between 1983 and 1998. Mr Ja is a graduate of the University of International Relations, Pyongyang (1978-1983). Born on 28 March 1954, he is married and has children.
Sin Son Ho – Permanent Representative to the United Nations (2008-2014)
Sin So Ho was born on 5 July, 1948. He graduated from Kim Il-Sung University in 1972 and served as the Third Secretary in the DPRK Embassy to Egypt until 1979. Following that he was a Senior Officer in the Foreign Ministry. From 1983 to 1986 as was an Embassy Counsellor based in Lesotho. From 1986 to 1990, he was a Division Chief in the Foreign Ministry and a Counsellor in the DPRK Embassy to Zimbabwe from 1990 to 1995.
He later served as Deputy-Director of the DPRK Foreign Ministry (1995 – 1999). He then served for three years as an Ambassador to the DPRK UN Mission. From 2003 onward he was Director-General of the Foreign Ministry. On 7 May, 2008, Sin was appointed DPRK Ambassador to the UN. He has been awarded a number of orders and medals for his service. He is married with two children.
